We regret to announce the passing of :

Chief  Steven McGarvey # 2510 (Retired)

Medford Department of Public Safety, Division of Police

 

 

Retired Chief McGarvey died as a result of injuries sustained during an unfortunate accident on June 3, 2008.

 

Retired Chief McGarvey had served Medford Township as a police officer for 27 years prior to his retirement in 2000.  Throughout his career Retired Chief McGarvey served in numerous capacities and held the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain.  The last 5 years of his career he served as the Chief of Police and Public Safety Director.

 

His service with our agency was characterized by loyalty, fearless performance of duty and faithful and honorable devotion to our department and our community.

 

Retired Chief McGarvey is survived by his wife Joyce McGarvey and his brother James McGarvey, also a retired chief of police from Medford Lakes Borough (NJ).

 

On behalf of Chief Marc Sano, President of the Burlington County Police Chiefs' Association, we wish to extend our sympathies to the members of the Medford Police Department of Public Safety and the McGarvey family.
